KATIE CHRISTIE, AKADEMIE MODE UND DESIGN SUSTAINABILITY IN FASHION AND CREATIVE INDUSTRIES 2022
ABOUT ME
I am a creative pattern cutting lead designer who is heavily
influenced by art and music, particularly by work which
reflects its societal context. My design process translates
the confident shapes of my research through draping
silhouettes directly onto the stand. I find my personal
aesthetic fully materializes with a dynamic combination of
stand cutting, multimedia influences on my research and a
painterly illustration style.
After I graduate, I would like to gain experience working
with the design teams of a luxury, contemporary fashion
brand. Especially if that provides the opportunity to live in
a new country, as I am a confident, independent traveller and find experiencing new cultures to have a very positive influence on my design ideas. I would love to work for a brand with innovative silhouettes at the forefront of their brand aesthetic, and an ethical supply chain at their core.
I’m also open to working in creative spaces which allow me to design in an interdisciplinary manner - while overall my focus is on luxury fashion design, I’m really intrigued by set design, makeup, and styling. The opportunity to work in the music industry would develop my current research interests and complement my previous experience in theatre production. I work very effectively in a team setting and I am motivated by working with other people.
I aspire to set up my own brand, which focuses on a strong, dynamic aesthetic, and a business structure that reflects this: that unapologetically respects and learns with everyone in the production line, from the designers and labourers all the way through to the customer. The brand would develop a strong narrative over time which reflected current social and cultural topics, and collaborated regularly with creatives from different disciplines. I want to focus on manipulating fabrics and creating exciting new silhouettes, which are versatile and provide my customer with a strong sense of identity. My ultimate goal would be to have a collaborative flagship store. A home to an exciting studio space where I could design with inspiration from my customers, continuing the brand’s ever developing narrative, and an interactive, inclusive shop floor that also worked as a music venue and art exhibition space.
